I met this guy for the 2nd time now, after IWWF event in Belgrade, I saw him again here at Hipnotics Worlds. He seemed more open than at the beginning and all of us girls realized he is so nice and romantic… thanks for nice roses that you made for us, it was special surprise from you! Also… thanks for your Power brace, it helped me with shuv… so it works… or some of your special “podium energy” was transfered through it… Thanks a lot Michael and hope to see you soon!
Nelly Mance: Hi there Michael, this is 2nd comp that I saw you on? How was your season, which comps you hit this year?
Michael Nieuwerf: heey nelly, the beginning and the end of the season was good. I competed the Wake The Pool and I was at the European boardbattles in Marburg and in Nethen. I also did the Dutch and the European Championships. And I was also at the WWA Protest Cable Call and The WWA Worlds in Hip-Notics. After the WWA in Hip-notics I also competed in at the Red Bull Wake Up high jump.
Nelly Mance: What were your best results in this season?
Michael Nieuwerf:
European boardbattle Nethen: 3th place
WWA Worlds Antalya: 4th place Red Bull Wake up: 1st place
Nelly Mance: Is it your first time over here at Hip-notics, how did you like it?
Michael Nieuwerf: It is now my third time that I have been at Hip-notics. It is really nice here. The weather is nice and the cable is perfect. And the obstacles are really nice as well, especially the kickers.
Nelly Mance: With whom you are riding usually, what is your home cable?
Michael Nieuwerf: I usually ride at in the cable in Nieuwegein Down under in Holland. And there are always good riders where I can ride with, for example Sjors van de Kerkhof, Sjoerd Compier and Rocco van Straten.
Nelly Mance: How did you like this competition, let us know what was the highlight of it, party, new trick or your run?
Michael Nieuwerf: There was really a high level at the pro riders and it was really nice to see them do such a big tricks. In the training I also landed some new tricks that was really nice too.
Nelly Mance: How did you like competition format, do you like more one pick up with one run or two runs, best one counts?
Michael Nieuwerf: I like the WWA format, even though I like the two runs more. I think you would see bigger tricks then because you have got two runs. You can take more risk
Nelly Mance: Who joined you from your team during this competition week?
Michael Nieuwerf: Denise de Haan and Mike Ketellapper and his girlfriend Daphne joined me during the comp and of course the young kid Devi Sentrop.
Nelly Mance: What now, what are your plans for this season?
Michael Nieuwerf: I am now going to focus on the school again. I graduated last year and I started a new study at the Johan Cruyff University. I want to do my best in this first year, school is really important for me.
Nelly Mance: Who is helping you on all of your trips?
Michael Nieuwerf: My sponsors, Denise de Haan, TC of Holland cablewakeboard and mostly my parents.
Nelly Mance: What you do other time, when you are not on the water?
Michael Nieuwerf: I go to school, and I love to play music, specially the guitar. And further I work in a pub and sport in a gym. That is my winter season.
Nelly Mance: How did you like Wake Up Jump by Red Bull yesterday, you won first place, was it hard for you?
Michael Nieuwerf: I really liked the comp, it was something else then just a normal competition. It was really hard to get first. James and Efi were also jumping so high.
Nelly Mance: How your body reacts to the high jumps?
Michael Nieuwerf: In the beginning everything is still good but after the last few jumps my knees were overreacted. The high jumps are nice but not good for your knees.
Nelly Mance: How do you protect yourself from being injured?
Michael Nieuwerf: Just train a lot in the gym and just think about something before you do it. I do not take so much risk before a competition.
