Last time when I was here it was really small ski resort, this was over 3 years ago… Not very known, it was just ordinary one, until one day when it was revealed and since then people are refreshing snow forecast very often expecting pow pow conditions. In the last couple of years it became very famous by its Freeride possibilities. I really doubt if I should write so much nice words about it or maybe I would like to keep this secret for me and couple of my closest friends. But I have to tell you the story and I will be hoping to be first who will leave her tracks in fresh pow pow day!

The height of mountain is from 1287m – 2636 m with 4 T bar lifts (2 for beginners), 2 cable cars and one “magic carpet”. By the level of your ride you can choose the best slope for you. It has 3 blue, 27 red, 5 black slopes and 27 cross-country skiing runs. (25km).

This is definitively the most sunniest place in Hohe Tauern and it is considered the “jewel of the National Park”.

If you are not into skiing snow rafting and other side things are waiting for you. It is available at the Kofele lift, by the Ankogel Cable Car valley station.

Through the whole day ski bus is operating in this area. In the morning and afternoon it goes every half an hour and in the middle of the day, every hour.

When we talk about national park here is more details about it. With a surface of 1800 square kilometers the Hohe Tauern National Park is the largest National Park in the Alps. It is an island of nature in the heart of Europe and Noah’s Ark for many rare plant and animal species.

However, the National Park is much more than just a protected area. Becaue of its numerious educational programs has also been called “Austria’s largest class-room”. Many projects related to science and protection of species focus on exploring the sensitive ecological balance of the Hohe Tauern.

Winter is the time when nature takes a well deserved break. So visiting the National Park only in caring way and in the company of qualified guides comes highly recommended. For example in snowshoes, together with National Park Rangers or on touring skis together with certified mountain and skiing guides.

Except snowboarding there are lots of side things you could do during your stay there. Cross-country skiing, tobogganing, winter walking, ice skating & curling rinks, ice climbing, Horse-drawn carriage rides, winter horse riding, pools, spa & wellness, tennis, indoor climbing, catering in the national park…
