The unforgettable closing season event was held on 11th April on Krvavec, Slovenia. The 4th Quicksilver Luža Contest! Awesome weather, big blue sky and sun, cold water and snow attracted 78 competitors on Skies and Snowboards and a lot of viewers. There were only three competitors  from Croatia that competed. Majda Gregorović  from Rijeka, Petra Tončić from Zagreb and Marina Oskoruš from Ogulin and they were all competing in snowboard category.

We gathered at 9 o’clock on the Beach at Krvavec, and at 10 o’clock Luža Girls Staff opened the icy application stand where riders were applying for the competition. Only riders who preregistered via www.dobr.si web site could apply for the competition at icy application stand.  You could also buy coupons for the drinks at icy bar and food at icy BBQ at icy application stand.

While Luža boys and men were trying to break the ice on top of the Luža, competitors began changing their usual snowboard and ski snow-wear into their wetsuits because Luža was measuring only 3 C. The worm spring day kept us alive from a cold, cold water.

Introduction to Luža Contest rules began at 12 o’clock, rules were simple, the point was to ride the stage

as far as you can, and to do some cool trick. There were 2 categories, ski and snowboard which were divided on Male, Female,  Boys and Girls. Awards were for best ride, best trick, best fall, best other, miss and mr Luža, best female and male look, and best senior. After introduction in rules, contest began. We all had our start number, so in the first run everything was going by the order, next run was a messy session run, cause a lot of us were wet from the first run and we frozen waiting for our turn for a session. I almost gave up, how freezing it was. Competitors did awesome tricks and rides, and bails also. Our lifeguard Rozle did a great job in pulling us out from the cold Luža water. Some of competitors had costumes and some of them jumped right from history into Luža. After session jump and declaring winners of the 4th Quicksilver Luža Contest followed other award games. Like a trip to Canary Islands for a free surfing lessons for one week, free sleeping in Eskimo village on Krvavec and other.

All Croatian folks that were visiting contest left Krvavec with last cable car except me, Petra…because I came by train so I left that part ’bout leaving home for the next day. I joined team Dobr, helpers and some riders on a party and after-party. All I can say is that you can all be sorry for leaving me alone up on Krvavec. There was a rock band playing at a party, and they were singing cover songs. After-party moved  in Eskimo village with DJs and awesome environment. I can say that literally ruff was on fire because iglu was melting and had a hole on a ruff so you could see stars on a beautiful dark blue sky without any clouds. That was promising us a new worm spring day. After partying all night, the morning came fast and even better than the morning before because everyone was satisfied with success of 4th Quicksilver Luža Contest. I decided to ride on Sunday, but my smelly boots didn’t dry over night so I was like a lizard moving  from a spot to spot on the Beach trying to absorb sun rays. The hosts were very polite and friendly to me. I want to thank them for everything they did and we’ll meet again next year  on the next Quicksilver Luža Contest.
