2nd stop of CWT was held due to really big waves!

I

Three of us started our weekend late afternoon on Friday, with a car full of equipment. Plan was to ride competition on Saturday and on Sunday, morning and evening ride at the cable Pag and in between some scuba diving on a long deep walls. But waves forced us to change our plans. We came in our apartments pretty late and than a bit of talking and it was already 1 am. Due to the situation that the bad weather was planned, we needed to get up before six to try to grab some nice morning flat on the cable.

The morning was so nice, no wind, no clouds, flat water. I took my wakeskate out of bag and in that moment someone on the sky turned on the ventilator and we had again, this weekend, on the other spot, the strongest wind in this season. I am starting to think, that our CWT is cursed since every place we come we bring the strong north wind “Bura”!

Decision was to postpone competition till tomorrow and instead of after party to make pre party ;) weee… at least something that made me happy :D Only one category we couldn’t postpone, cuz one of the favorites needed to catch his plane. Moritz Petri (GER) took first place, Filip Veličković (SER) second and Jakob Fonda (SLO) third place.

After prize giving ceremony we went to the apartments to have some sleep before we decided to go out. Mario, friend of me and photographer at the comp, decided to stay and I never say no for the dancing evening. Everything started at the cable with some interesting games and than somehow, with three cars we went to eat something and than “Zrće”… Croatian Ibiza, which was completely empty in this time of the season.

With wide angle we went around Aquarius, avoiding expensive entrance ticket and went directly to Papaya, to have private party there. Only us and waiters, but believe me, it was really fun, dancing the rest of the evening.

When we thought it is the end of the evening, it wasn’t like this. We only headed to our apartments and when I came there I woke up my “evil” friend Mario who started with one of his bad ideas. Alex, Mario and me visited the rest of the crew who still didn’t fall a sleep to make some mess. Stefan and Mo were ready for it. I am sorry for Katrin and Sophie, because we woke them up during the night couple of times. Don’t ask me what was there, but unfortunately we were a bit too loud and woke up apartment’s owner who was every once in a while knocking and making us quiet. Afterwards without the reason but she got used to it. We went to bed when it when the sun was almost out.

We needed to be at 12 o’clock on the cable, so we had enough time to get some sleep.  The weather for tomorrow wasn’t promising at all, the whole night the wind was blowing like it gonna crash the house.

The kicker was under the water and the slider was on the shore. So we didn’t have any obstacles, wind crashed them.

We were postponing competition hour by hour, but than, there was no more time and we needed to start. First were the wakeskaters “the waveriders”… It was impossible to make stronger trick than 180 even for our best wakeskater Danijel Ratković and those who finished the round were really lucky to make it. I was only girl who joined open men wakeskate. I didn’t expect high result, but at least I wanted to start my run and there was no chance for me to pass more than 50 meters. I don’t know if I was more sad or nervous on the wind. After Danijel Ratković (CRO) second position took Nikola Stanisavljević (SER) and on the third place was Andrej Gudac (CRO).

The next category was open women. Katrin and Sophie, travelled all the way from Hamburg to be part of this competition and for them, there was no chance to make any invert, it was mission impossible to cut under this “wavey” conditions.

The last category needed to start. End of the day didn’t bring any better conditions, like it usually happens. You really could see on the riders who have more kilometers under their board. First three places were really expected. Rene Konrad (GER) on the first place, Robert Pokovec (SLO) on the second and Stefan Lebwohl (AUT) on the third place. Rene definitively showed up his consistent riding in all runs, but his second one was the best with 911, bell air, frontflip, half cab roll, sbend and TS front roll. Roby made 911, frontflip, half cab roll, BS 3, blind judge and FS 3. And Stefan switch raley, raley, switch blind judge nuclear grab and than couple meters after landing a trick big wave covered his board and sank him down.

After this competition in an Open Men finals again I realized how much I missed this year’s international competition, being nervous and cheering for my favorites. Yes, let us see if there will be any change and if I will be able to come to the next international competition.

Again, I had chance to meet some really nice new people, to witness that some of the riders are not just nice pictures on our walls, that they have soul and spirit. That there are not only girls who are coming to the cable to show their new boardshorts, that there exist girls who are giving their life for being on the water, catching air and winning deserved podium places.
